My First Time - A Confession

Like many my age, it seems only natural that Star Wars is a part of my life.  It’s been around as long as I can remember, and since it hit popular culture like a ton of bricks during my youth like most kids I embraced it.

I have seen all the films, in all their various “editions” what seems like thousands of times.  VHS, DVD, Special Edtion, boxed set, in the theater, digital projection - you name it I’ve seen it.

But I must confess, I am not sure I remember the very first time I saw A New Hope.  I know I was 6 years old, and I know I saw it, but I don’t specifically remember the experience.  Blasphemy, I know - especially for someone as big a Star Wars geek as I am, but it’s the truth.

I’ll tell you what I do remember about Star Wars in 1977 - Christmas!  Kenner ruled the world that season, and on that day I started a collection of Star Wars toys that would entertain me for the next 10 30 years.  Most of them are still in the attic at my parents home - well worn from many an epic battle in the back yard.

So today I celebrate Star Wars not to honor something that happened 30 years ago, but as a celebration of the role it still plays in my and many other’s life’s enjoyment.  And I look to the day when I can share it with my children who will probably tell me how dumb it all is.

May the Force Be With You.

Now there’s an eye-catching headline!

My 11-year-old son loves all the Star Wars movies. He and my husband have been watching them all together in order (starting with Phantom Menace) on DVD. I bet your son will enjoy them too.
