Jeff,

It's not too late. I usually see proposals before books are written, but technically it could be after manuscript is completed.

The down side is that you missed out on any development on the outline ahead of time, and in our workflow you did not benefit from an editor working with you during the writing phase.

Regardless, you could still submit a proposal.

I've been working on a book for over a year and feel like I'm mostly through the first draft and we've been doing research on the competitive books in our area. Is this an appropriate time to submit the book proposal? Or should we have done that long ago?

Hi Michael,

Its hard to say without seeing your proposal format. If you are including the things I am discussing in my proposal series, and at the level of detail I am suggesting your format may be fine.

B&W Times is certainly not a requirement, and I may give additional thought to a proposal that not only present the information I need but does it in a unique and interesting way. There is nothing wrong with demonstrating creativity.

I have a real nice format I use for consulting proposals. Anything wrong with using it for my book proposal? It looks very pro; just don't want to get turned down becuase it's not b&w times new roman.
