I’m definitely a “do-it-yourself type.” But every once in a while I am what the Geek Squad’s Robert Stephens refers to as an “I thought I Could Do It Myselfer.” Here are some things I learned this weekend while installing a new screen on my patio door.

1. Metal spline rollers can cut your fingers
2. Aluminum screen can cut your fingers
3. Metal spline rollers can cut aluminum screen
4. Plastic spline rollers don’t cut your fingers
5. Fiberglass screen doesn’t cut your fingers
6. You should use fiberglass screen
7. I could have purchased a new screen door for less than I ended up spending on parts
