This week, I am in Malta attending the Wiley EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Sales Conference. What a way to start a new job! The location is obviously fantastic and exotic, but I had so many great meetings with new colleagues today. I have been exposed to more of our business today than I thought would be possible on the first day, and it is simply through the face to face interactions with account reps, other publishers, and editors from around the globe. The global perspective really changes my view of our business, and I am really looking forward to the opportunity to learn and grow.

Your Chance to Learn with Me

I thought I would offer the opportunity for you to learn with me this week. Leave a comment with your questions, and I will be sure to get them in front of the right people here this week for an answer. Try to keep things focused on a global perspective, or specific to a country or region.

So, what do you want to know?

The official announcement has rolled across the organization, and I’ve been able to reach most of my authors, so I thought it was time to share the news here as well.

I will be taking a new position at Wiley, serving as the Associate Publisher of Technology for Wiley’s EMEA Group beginning July 1. I will be based in the US, but will have an office at our UK division located in Chichester to which I will travel frequently in addition to some assorted European travel over the course of the year.

It’s an exciting opportunity for me, and gives me a chance to continue to learn and grow and hopefully try some new and innovative things – as well as finally meet some of my authors located outside of the US.

It also puts me in a unique position for some changes in this blog, as I will be learning first hand about publishing in other parts of the world, and I’ll be sharing that with you.

So it’s all very new and exciting, and a little scary at the same time, but I’m definitely ready for a new challenge – wish me luck.

What advice do you have for changing roles within an organization? Share your stories in the Comments.
