Google + Environment = Greensear.ch
Corey Szopinski emailed me today to tell me about a new project his company just launched - Greensearch. Its a Google Custom Search that donates proceeds from Adsense revenues to environmental causes.
Same search results as Google, but the revenue generated by advertising is donated to national environmental non-profits. The more people that use it, the more money it’ll generate. It’s an example of using technology to help people make small lifestyle changes that benefit the environment.
I like that they display the current earnings for the month on the main search page. Check out greensear.ch

That’s a good idea, but there are potential click fraud problems. Just by telling visitors that the ad revenue goes to environmental causes, isn’t Greensear.ch encouraging people to click ads?
It seems to follow logically that if you’re trying to help the environment and you know clicking the ads will do so, then you’ll click the ads. Most people don’t make the connection between clicking an ad and illegitimately taking money from an advertiser.
